If you are dead set against using Greyhound, or even if you do use that service, and need a box, invest a few bucks to buy a particular U-Haul box. The box is called a TV/Microwave box. It is double walled. I have received a set of nested drums in one of these boxes, and re-used it to ship a set. I have a few of them flattened out for future use. The box will accommodate a four piece set with a 22" or smaller bass drum if the drums are disassembled a la shell packs when they arrive at music stores from the manufacturer. I don't use larger bass drums, but I think that la 24" or 26" drum might fit in there, too. Also consider using an old beat to crap fiber bass drum case for the same method of shipping. The W&A set that I wrote about came to me via Greyhound in an old case of this type that my friend was going to put out in the trash. The straps were broken. So, the lid was securely fastened with gaffer's tape. My friend, DTK, was too smart and too classy to use the garden variety duct tape.

The box is 24-24-20,so a 24 BD will not fit......unless you don't allow any room for protection........
Even though they are double wall to start,I still try to line again with more double wall all around!

Thanks for the clarification, Blair. I don't think I will ever want to buy a bass drum larger than 22". But, I might buy one if it came with a bargain priced set to flip. It's good to know that my favorite shipping carton would be too small.
i never heard about greyhound offering shipping. good to know just in case.
Seems to work best with big, heavy drums.........I shipped a 26" Rogers BD to a guy with them, and a 24,14,15,18 6 ply Luddy kit to another guy.............Blair
Hi Blair, So a question about Greyhound can you drop off the drum and will they pack it or does the drum need to be pack up by seller? Iam thinking about a 18x36 bass drum its in provo,UT and iam in ca...Mikey
You need to box it up and take to G-Hound...........
The buyer needs to pick it up also........
