Gretsch Tangerine Sparkle Wrap Color Matching

Loading...

Hello all! First post!

I have a mid-60s era Gretsch RB kit in tangerine sparkle (technically glass glitter, as I understand). It bears all the remnants of 40+ years of use, along with a few unnecessary holes drilled here and there, most notably on the bass drum- a Ludwig double-tom mount was added at some point. The wrap actually looks great for the most part, and I would like to fill the holes and patch the wrap with the best match possible. I have a tangerine glass glitter swatch from precisiondrum.com that looks good... the color is nearly perfect, but the new swatch reflects considerably less light at some angles and looks a bit less "glittery"... any suggestions for a better match?

This is definitely a players kit that I gig with it regularly, so match "perfection" isn't mandatory, but I figure I'll try to come as close as possible...

Is the swatch glass glitter or just sparkle? Glass glitter would throw more light. I think trying to match a 40 year old road hardened drum will be tough with any wrap.

The swatch is glass glitter. Strangely, the new sample looks a bit "duller" than the old wrap at certain angles. I'll post some pics if I can.

Did you pull the protective cover off? It has a really thin plastic layer on top to protect during installation.

Good tip - it's hard to find a good Glitter out there....I've tried in some of the hobby stores - nothing worth while yet.

Thanks
