Gretsch SSB snare find? Need help!

Loading...

I believe this is a 4155 and needs some TLC but couldn’t resist for $5 asking price hiding away under a pile of junk at a flee market today.

Any info would be appreciated.

Top rim missing, plus head.

Muffler looks bent.

Strainer missing on butt side.

Haven’t been able to check it out closer yet but here are actual pictures right after I got it and put it in the back of my truck.

I am sure someone can tell me the name but looking quick on internet couldn’t find it.

Are you serious on the dry baby powder?

Never heard of that.

Well that’s a number I found quickly on the internet but didn’t know if it was called something else. So it is a 4155?

I did see a 4166 listed in catalog but not 4155.

Thanks for info. Not too familiar with Gretsch.

Something dry... maybe it just needs dusted. Sometime a new clean paintbrush and brush it off; just was thinking "no liquid"... ya know...

it's dusty as heck

I can see the baby powder or corn starch first as a mild rubbing compound baking powder soda and a vinegar activator

once the brass ceases to glitter, and the drum looses its luster, and the stage remains dark, all you have left is the timbre of family.

& you're saying it's missing the Fishtail butt..

So Fishtail Butt, top hoops, and 10 (good maybe original if you can find them) Rods.

Need pic of the Butt side panel

I think I will start a new post in restoring section once I start on this but here is the 2 shots of the strainer. I don’t see any extra holes but there was damage to veneer and edge under a taped section that I just noticed.

12 rods missing , bottom hoop is missing 2.

Is that what the butt is called "Fishtail"?

Thanks for your info by the way.
