Gretsch single BONGO (from a cocktail set)

Loading...

Hello,

I recently acquired an unusal Gretsch drum which was too small to be a tom and looked like it was a bongo.

The shell measures about 8" diameter and about 5 3/8" depth.

It has the Gretsch round badge as well as the insde orange label with MODEL #4492 and the serial number. The mount is a diamond style mount attached with three screws.

Beautiful BURGUNDY SPARKLE with five BroadKaster lugs.

It seems to be 3 ply.

I was originally asking for help in identifying this drum and thanks to previous replies, I am now convinced that this is part of a vintage Gretsch COCKTAIL set that was obviously split up for what ever reason(s) by someone many years ago?

The chromed parts needed cleaning up and I recently did that and there was a slight seam lift with the wrap which I glued down.

Some of you asked for photos, so I am now posting them.

If anyone has any other remarks as to if they think this may not be part of a cocktail set, then I welcome any response?

A big thank you to Rich K. and J.B. for your help.

Regards,

David...

Somewhere there's another very lonely Gretsch Bongo weeping for it's long lost mate.

Hi,

I bought a blue matelic Gretsch bongo "set" in 1970. I gave it to one of my best friends before I departed back to the West Coast. And guess what? He still has the set, along with his own vintage red metalic full drum kit that he bought in the late 60's.

The bongos and drum kit are in showroom/mint condition.

I bought them in 1970 in NYC at Sam Goodies (Sam Goodies has since been bankrupted). The cost I paid at that time was $125.00.

Next week I am going to visit him in Louisville, KY. Would you like me to take a picture of the gear?

Does that clear up any questions for you?

Ride On,

Music Man
