I'm new to Gretsch, but were the designs on Gretsch RB drums consistent from year to year on design? Lugs, hoops, etc. I'm considering finding some loners to put together, but not sure if I'll run into any issues of them not being consistent in look as far as hardware goes.
Gretsch RB lugs and other parts question Last viewed: 3 hours ago
Over the multi-decade span of Round Badge drums, there were several changes. If you are talking about the 1960s, very little changed with the hardware. Lug casings should be the same except the mounting screws changed from round head machine screws to self-tapping hex head screws in the later 1960s. Die cast hoops are the same. I am told that there are very subtle differences in the torpedo style bass T-rods and the claws, but few notice them. There were changes in the throws over time, but it was not a year-to-year frequency. Take a look at the catalogs online from 1961 and 1964 at this link: http://www.vintagedrumguide.com/gretsch_drumsets.html and you should get an idea what looks right.

Thanks Rick! Appreciate that info.
i'm no expert (working on the refurb of my first gretsch kit) but i did notice something interesting last week...
i bought some floor tom legs on ebay since the ones i had were pretty jacked up and rusty. turns out they are too large for the brackets i have. they are the straight legs with the slight bend at the end (like you see on RB kits), but they are too large for my 3/8" mounts.
so then i noticed that the legs fit the cymbal mount bracket and tom mount bracket (which apparently have larger holes). just thought that was weird.
