Gretsch RB Anniversary Sparkle

Loading...

The round badge Gretsch concert snare is pretty much done, ca.1958 Anniversary Sparkle finish, 6 ply Jasper shell. It does play, I need to do some tweaking and tuning and breaking in of new heads, but it does sound good so far, I think I'll keep it! When I "rescued" it, it was dirty, dusty, rusty, just the shell, rims and some nasty heads remained. Fortunately, the micro-sensitive throw-off was still intact, minus the throw arm and adjustment knob. Unfortunately, what was missing was the very rare and hard to find single point adjustable butt end (thank you David!). There were no snares or in-shell key holder as well. I purchased vintage adjustment knob and new 20 strand Gretsch snares on eBay. Reproduction throw off handle from JP2 Creations, in-shell key holder and key from Cherie Willoughby's Repercussions Drum Shop. I polished all the chrome as shiny as I could and actually car waxed the outside of the shell which did wonders in cleaning it up, shining it and really bringing out the sparkle!

Well done! I love that finish.

Your drum was right in there at the change-over from 3 to 6 ply then (1958).

That is one beautiful drum you have there.

Cheers,

Can I add more thumbnails if I edit the post? I do have more pictures...

Okay, I figured it out and added some more photos, let me know what you think. It's not perfect, but I do intend on using the drum, they were meant to be played, enjoy!
