What did you have done to the original finish?

Never play it the same way once.

I typically like when these vintage Gretsch kits show a little wear from age and a lifetime of playing. I am told by the original owner that this kit traveled for many years and then sat unplayed in a basement for 20 more. It had lots of mojo when I picked it up, really too much. The clear coat was mostly gone and what remained was flaking. There were sections of the drums unfinished and unprotected down to the bare shell (I'd show some original pics but my upload fails each time. PM w/ ur email address if interested).

So I made a decision to restore the kit but wanted to try and maintain an original-type finish. I have a friend who owns a local antiques restoration shop in Atlanta. He does top level work…mostly known for restoring art and fine furniture while maintaining original character. He removed the deteriorated top coat, smoothed the shells and then evened out the tone and color with a stain to match the original base coat. They are now absolutely stunning!

I’m only selling these because I already have two other bop kits. I was thinking about using this one as my rehearsal kit since its nicer than what I currently use. However, I thought it would be best to just go ahead and sell it rather than have it sit out of site in between practices. Someone should get it before I change my mind again!!

So it doesn't have a lacquer coat?

Never play it the same way once.

Yes, it does have a lacquer coat but it's muted, not high gloss.
