Gretsch paper tags

Just did a search, but couldn't really find the info...maybe my search terms weren't effective.

What year, more or less, did Gretsch start to use paper tags on the inside. I know of one snare with silver paint, and no tag.

I KNOW I saw this here somewhere, but can't find it!

Thanks!

I have a 4pc late 50's kit with SILVER SEALER shells - no tags and mostly 3ply (the floor is 6ply). The drums were bought new as a complete kit in 1960 from a local music store here in Nanaimo BC. They were probably made in 58-59.

From what I understand Gretsch introduced Paper Tags in 1962. There could be some shells out there with paper tags earlier than that. Changes in the Gretsch drum line - from 3ply to 6ply, the addition of silver sealer, the use of paper tags - did not happen instantly from what I gather. There are exceptions to what we 'may' think are the rules regarding Gretsch drums and paper tags, silver sealer and plys in the 50's and 60's.

I haven't seen a 3ply Gretsch shell with silver sealer AND paper tag.......but there may be some out there.
