Gretsch Model 4105 Snare restore.

Loading...

Well the Gretsch got jealous with all the time I've spent on the Slingny's.

So here we go :-)

This was my haul to school band snare. Uphill both way's.

Yep, that is a Ludwig throw. Think I paid $20 at a pawn shop in 1975 or so for the drum.

What does everyone think? Keep the Ludwig, Get a correct Gretsch throw?

Pretty sure the wrap can be polished and saved. Don't see any reason to muck with the interior silver paint.

Hardware is off to the tumbling and polishing dept :-)

Pics attached:

Thanks!!

The stock throw is a weak design (I had the same drum in Duco). The Luddy is a better mechanism.

I suggest putting a new repro microsensitive strainer on it.

Cool snare! I vote clean her up and keep the wrap as is. Strainer is your choice. ;)

Thanks guys!

The repro throw looks the best way to go.

Not sure going to be able to get the yellowing off the wrap.

Think for now it will just be get the hardware detailed. Put it back together and enjoy.

Sounds like a good plan. You can always go back and wrap it.

Thank you!

I suggest cleaning it a couple times with Dawn dishwashing soap and then Novus 2 and Novis 1. You'll be surprised how much it'll clean. Beautiful drum.

I think your seeing an optical allusion. There is a snare bed just to the left of the point.

Think OddBall was funning.

I'd use the better of any good throws that fit in either of the two sets of holes. Doesn't matter as much now, to keep it stock, but that's always a nice option as regards keeping it OE-looking.

Look forward to your after-pics.
