Gretsch FT legs

Loading...

What do people do to keep the legs of a early 70's Gretsch floor tom from vibrating on the bottom rim? I've seen a little moleskin there do the trick, but was thinking it would be better and more effective in the long run to sort of "shim out" the mount with something?

Any thoughts?

Thanks.

My early 70's FT's (16 & 18") leg's don't touch the rims. I've never heard of this issue, but maybe others have. Interesting to see the feedback.

Good luck.

I think that was a 60,s problem and by the 70,s it had been addressed.

I like your shim idea. You might try getting a sheet of rubber, removing the mount from the FT, and tracing it on the rubber. Then cut the rubber accordingly, and you've got yourself a custom gasket.

Rubber there might even preserve the sustain of the drum. Or the opposite...I don't know. I'll try it.

But what's the story there? Just bad mount design? How did that happen?

Thanks

Bad design........I have seen it too............

You can stick some washers under the FT mount where the screws go in......that would work.
