A note on Gretsch and Vintage parts:

I like the fact that you can order a "vintage" buildout on the Custom USA drums. I did just that = vintage spurs on the 18" bd (any larger bd I would probably opted for the standard spurs because they do function better), the vintage t-rods & claws on the bd and the diamond leg plates on the floor tom. I did not go with the vintage rail mount only because I wanted a naked bd....but it would look cool on the drum. You can get one of those snap-in key holders on the snare drum too. Also - they've rebuilt the Microsensitive strainer and single point Butt End (the change there is the drum key screws to replace the tiny slot screws). They retro-fit to the same mounting holes as the old strainer. I bought one and so far I'm liking it very much.

Ya - it would be nice to see them build a Gretsch Gladstone snare with the three-way tensioning and everything else that made that drum so special. I don't think it would take away from the few GG snare drums out there now for the simple fact those drums have the vintage history and the new ones would not.

Mike,

Is your drum here the one that is featured in the Gretsch book? Again, one of my all-time favorite Gretsch snares. I wish I could find one in half this good condition.

Sean,

Yes that is the drum!

It would be awesome to find another one or two of these drums out there with the tube lugs, the nameplate & Cadillac Green finish!

Blair,

It could be, the drum came from England and the owner bought it in the States (northern Illinois/ Chicago area) back in 1989 from a Polish man named Merkel (I think).

OK....that be the one.........

Mike Kaskill in England bought it from Marek Piotrowski who lived in Chicago.

As I said earlier,I was in Chicago,Marek wanted $400 for it,I called some "expert" who said he didn't think it was worth the $400,so I passed!

And,that would have been around 1989.

Marek had a garage full of vintage drums.........I remember buying a Gretsch kit,and some K's that day.

Your drum has been re-gold plated.......it sure didn't look like that when I saw it.

Well traveled drum!

Wonderful diamond you've got there!

Gretsch makes such exclusive drums. I have a Gretsch Round Badge 6-ply bass drum from 1966 and I will never let it go!
