Gretch Drums whacha think?

Loading...

Hi guys I have my original 1970 maple Gretch kit.13,14,16,18 kick and 51/2-14 maple snare. All original parts.

This kit was bought around 76 what is unusual is the kit has three different badges, first, second and third stop sign., but only the snare has the white/orange internal sticker, the rest have the grey/black with hand written model# I got the drums from my friend Ken who had Jacks in Boston at the time.

We spoke yesterday after many years and because the company was relocating and this kit was custom with unique sizes he thought the kit might have some true value,

What do you guys think?

thanks Joe

18" kick is a very desirable size. How about some pics?

Pics, please.

The kick drum might have some value on its own, but collectors seem to attribute value to kits that are unaltered from catalog configurations, not custom configurations. Also, if the badges/tags don't match, even if you swear up and down the walls that you are the original owner and that you ordered the kit all at one time, it will probably seem suspect to a potential buyer.

...BUT, you just need to find the right buyer who will see the value in it.

Pics, please.

I'm not interested in selling them, I was just curious. I'll get some pic's when I can. I used these drums for wedings so they are still in awesome shape.

Sorry...usually when people come into the forum and ask if something has value, it's because they want to sell it. Kudos to you for keeping it and playing it! Sounds like a rad kit...

Joe, sounds like a great kit, would love to see pics. The second SSB didn't start until about late '79, and the white/gray tag appears around 1980. With the different tags and badges, your kit is a transitional set dating to '79 to '81. I've had a few kits like that, with different badges from that 1980 period. As Chet Falzerano points out, on the back cover of the '81 catalog is a photo of Tony Williams, surrounded by drums with 3 different badge types!

I would value your set at around $2400-$2600. If you can find a matching 8x12, it will really boost the value of the set, as 18-12-14 are the most desirable Gretsch sizes.

Thanks,

Bill

thank you guys for all your help. I don’t buy and sell, I just play a little and love drums. If anyone ever hears of a 12 please let me know that would be a nice addition to my babies.
