Advertised locally as a Ludwig Pioneer. Is this COB? What is this drum and what is it worth? Thanks!

Before I put my :2Cents: in, let me clarify that the older Pioneers aren't really in my area of expertise.
That said, I saw two things wrong with this drum right away:
1) That throw-off is WRONG. It's a hybrid between a 70s (or newer) P-85 (top part), and a 60s script logo P-83 (bottom part).
2) Somebody please correct me if I'm wrong, but I don't think the metal Pioneer was ever available in anything deeper than a 5x14, and this one looks like a 6.5x14.

Thanks Bill, yup - the strainer caught my eye right away too . Replacement hoops too, I believe. Really interested to hear what other info is out there, like how these drums sound. The price doesn't seem too bad, if it will be fair complement to my 5" Supra. I just looked in the 1928 catalogue and didn't see a deeper Pioneer drum there than a 5"... So what is it? Mmmmm...
not my area either. i'll take a few stabs. i think the depth is fine. should be 30's era?? brass shell but not the heavy brass shell. wrong strainer. probably has extra holes for that. certianly has modern hoops. should be a great sounding drum.

OK, I did check the sister sight, and a 6.5x14 Pioneer metal SD was available at least by 1939. It may have been earlier, but the individual pictures wouldn't come up for me...
Anyway, and DOH !! I didn't even notice the rims! Yes, I'd agree they're a little "too new!" But, IF sound is what you're most concerned about, and if it's a good price, go for it! Lord knows I've bought my share of "modified" drums! (and modify many myself!)

4x14, 5x14 and 6.5x14 were offered.

I was always thinking that Pioneer snares were 6luggers..
not 8 as in pic..?
But for the $150 he's asking...get it..(I'm not the seller/lol)
They offered 6 and 8 lugs..
I wanna say 6 lugs were earlier?
Those snare wires look like they may be Hinger wires. Worth quite a bit if they are.
If that"s a 30's Pioneer ,shouldn't the round badge say Pioneer on it?Just my 2 cents.
