Great Cartoon

I wish that this cartoon had been in circulation two or three years back when so many younger drummers were posting about their "endorsements" that enabled them to buy "custom made" generic drum sets with evangelical-themed brand names for inflated prices.

The image is displaying really small in your post for some reason. Here's a larger one.

Thank you for posting the larger version of the cartoon. What has become of all of those evangelical drum assemblers? I feel sorry for the drummers (usually young adults) who paid $1500 for a set of set of generic assemblers' drums that were alleged to be worth $3000, but were worth $500-$600. They were showing up on eBay for whatever the disillusioned "Christian rocker" kids could get for unloading them.

I got my first set during that early 2000s period when custom Keller sets really blew up overnight. Like so many others, I had a kit built that was not worth near the amount paid, but fortunately for me my tastes were far better than those of my contemporaries. I got a 4-piece kit in oyster black pearl: 13x8, 16x14, 18x14, 24x16. It's still my go-to kit, and the only drums I've ever gigged in its place are a collection of 3-ply Ludwig orphans in a 12/16/20 combination.

Fortunately for me I didn't end up with any wacky sizes or some awful, trashy finish with offset lugs like OCDP and Truth were pushing.

I've had it for 15 years and I somehow don't have many pictures of it. No good ones, at least. It no longer has a ported reso or an Evans batter.

From Dan Boucher

I've never heard of that scam. What was the deal?

Dan, years ago, there were several "drum companies" trying to sucker kids into "endorsing" their drums with come-ons like, "Hey dude, you can have a real endorsement with our drum company! Come to our showroom, check us out and we'll build you the kit of your dreams and publicize you and your band!"

It was all bullsh**. They just wanted to sell drumsets to suckers. A lot of guys fell for it. One company used to advertise locally on craigslist here.

Soultone cymbals did the same thing. They had an obnoxious, narcissistic, egotistical idiot repping their cymbals in northern NJ who pursued me with a vengeance to become an endorser. We had several phone conversations, and he finally showed up at one of my gigs with some sample cymbals, none of which I liked. After that, I just blew him off and he went looking for another victim.
