Granitone Or Lacquer For Bass Drum?

Loading...

Gonna be tackling the bass drum. 6 ply Star already painted with a thin coat of flat grey...wouldn't take much to sand it down to the bare wood...

I haven't read much here about the positive properties of Granitone. Are there any? I know it was a Ludwig thing in the 70's, but 3 ply that I know of...

Will Granitone dampen the sound of the bass?

The thicker shells don't really need any help. The grey paint was used more to emulate the Gretsch drums of the 60s. No real need to seal them. They are thick enough to make the jazzier sounds. As far as rock, you will need to use 2 ply heads and tune lower.

Sorry, the edges may need a little attention, but painting won't do much for the tonality.
