Got the Yamaha Recording Customs

These drums sound awesome. They are in better shape than described (some dings and tarnish on the metal) and simply rock. I have never played a 7 piece kit before and frankly it is kind of a guilty pleasure. I am using my Beat Boogie snare. They appear to be from the early 80's. I have found a matching snare online but it is a 8x14. The gent will go $400 with shipping but I had two concerns. One, is that too much? Secondly, an 8x14 seems a bit out of place with a smaller type kit. What are your thoughts?

Welcome to the club! Great drums that sound great no matter what heads you choose. I have pin stripes on my big blue kit and coated ambassadors on the black bop kit. You'd never know they were the same drums!

Best "working man's" drums regardless of price.

They look great too!

Personally I would not go with such a deep snare. Hold out for a 6.5.

I had a great day! Instead of sleeping in and wasting the day, I got up at 8 and I had all my slacking done by noon!

Yes, they are great drums! I just used my RCs at a gig last Friday night and they sounded terrific.

Nice kit, always liked the look and sound of those, in particular like the smaller diameter toms. I'm another that think a 6.5 snare would be a nice choice for that kit.. (wood shell would be good).

Cheers

I have a 6.5" Yamaha RC snare and it is a good match for the kit. I also think an 8" may not work as well.

I've got the 8" deep snare on my kit and I was surprised at how good it sounds. It came with the kit so I really didn't have a choice!
