From billnvick

Fish,I'm going to have to give that a try on some of my Pearl FG shells... looks pretty good!! Looking forward to seeing the whole kit!Bill

Hi Bill, yep - this stuff is looking nice! I've got about eight or ten cans each of the red, blue, black (star something), green and this bronze. (the bronze wasn't my favorite color, but the wife picked it out... I'm no fool...)

The hoops are chrome with this kit. I'm thinking of not painting the strip... idk, we'll see what happens with it.

Oh yeah: The price is kind of steep if you just walk in the store and buy it. The only place I could find it around here was at craft stores. Michael's and Jo-Ann's crafts both carry it, and both issue 40% and 50% coupons regularly. I signed up on their web site and get coupons in my email. And while you're at it, you can take crochet classes too!!!

Here are some kinda dark pictures... of course it got cloudy just as I finished them, so...

Anyway, I really like the way this project came out. I have an early set of USA Rockers that have been painted flat black. I'm thinking this stuff is the cure.

Nice! A little dark for my taste, but they sure came out good. Nice work!

That is pretty cool stuff!

I gotta get some of that. I have a drum or two I would like to test it on.

Nice job too.

That looks really great! I would have never guessed that was a spray paint finish. How many cans did that take? For those of us who do not possess the mad skills and tools sets of jccabinets, that is a very interesting option. (By the way jc, I am a big fan of your work). Good call and thanks for sharing.

Thanks all

Jeff, You think I did good with a rattle can??? I think I'll swoon... lol :)

It took about five cans of the Glitter Blast and two and a half cans of high gloss lacquer. There is a snare drum that is also nearly finished, it needs about one more shot of glitter paint and then the lacquer. It got breezy here, and rained once or twice last week. I paint outside, and that's not a good mix. I prefer getting the paint on what I'm aiming at instead of Glitter Blasting the courtyard. I've included the 'can count' in what it will take to finish it all...

I mentioned before that the Glitter Blast stuff is kind of expensive. It's about eight or nine bucks a can normally. With the coupon use I also mentioned it brings the cost down to about five bucks a can depending on the coupon used, the 40% or 50% off.

I've got big plans for the flat black painted Rocker kit, but it will be a while before I have time to get to it. I have a couple other sets to fix up first, and we're going into the wife's kitchen remodel phase here soon... and, as you can plainly see, in the planting bed behind the kit, I need to get some weeding done.

I keep having to edit this to get rid of this: flower

planting bed means flo wer bed... there, tricked the nasty thing!

love it!

I swear by rattle cans for model making so this is right up my alley.

Fishwaltz,

Sorry to bother you in the midst of a kitchen remodel. I tried an experimental shell using Glitter Blast and am curious; were you able to end up with anything resembling a smooth finish? Did you sand at all between coats? I have put five coats of Glitter Blast and four coasts of the clear coat and the result thus far is pretty mediocre. While I was not expecting a glass smooth finish, currentky my finish feels like medium grade sand paper. Any thoughts?

It was a cool experiment and I may feel better about the drum once I put the hardwear back on, however, I may have to go back down the road of wrapping.

Glitter, no matter where it comes from takes many, many, many coats of clear to bury. A good application of glitter usually stands up, so to speak, for the refraction of light to happen. It takes many, many coats of clear to get the surface flat, but once it's done, it looks KILLER!!!
