George Stone Drum

I just came across an old George B Stone and Son parade snare #7834. It has a repair sticker from October 1934. Are these parade drums collectable?

Any old drum has people that like to collect it. In regards to value, they do not sell for that much. Most marching drums sell between $75 and $200 depending on how rare the finish is, the size, age and who made it.

You also have to look at the true antique collectors that would pay thousands of dollars for a civil war drum that has a traceable history to a specific battle or a special circumstance associated with it.

Those drums usually show up in the antique market and end up in museums or private collections and not usually on Ebay.

Why not revive a two year old strain here...

I have a similar drum to the one you describe. Bought it (through ebay) from a guy outside of Boston for about $60 bucks. This one is very late for Stone, circa mid 1930s. Kind of a cool piece!

Anybody else out there into this stuff?

That's some nice bird'seye maple veneer there! The red paint is cool, too. I like the look of "old" drums that are in good shape, but they all have kind of the same sound when played. They make good decorative conversation pieces but they don't really have a practical application (for me) in terms of drums set usage. I think everybody has or has had at least one of these types of drums in their collections. I do. Mine is an old Leedy 3-ply.

Dave,

I kind of specialize in marching snares. The advice given thus far is on the money in a general way, but pricing is difficult without knowing more about the drum. Stone manufactured some me-too drums, but also some innovative work that is hard to find now.

Full-drum shots of the badge side, strainer side, butt side, top head, bottom head would go a long way.
