Funny Stories from the Throne

Okay....So we all have seen things from our perspective...that being looking out at the audience from the drum throne.

One slow, rainy, Monday night a jazz gig was happening at a nightclub I worked regularly. Mostly regulars who come in for their Monday night dinner and drink...the obligatory, frustrated waitress and of course, the bartender. The gig was pretty loose -mostly just standards out of The Real Book...nothing that anyone would be expected to leave their cozy homes to come out for...That aside, this particular night, a cute, little blonde girl walked in wearing a short, short miniskirt and sat down at the bar and turned to face the band while she sipped on her drink. Of course, she realizes that she looks good and that we are checking her out...

...Then we start to play a standard that she knew the words to...I forget what it was...needless to say, the jig was up and she was there to let us know she is a singer....maybe we'd ask her to sit in or something...right? Wrong!

So, we get through a couple more tunes. She gets up to go to the restroom -which, unfortunately, was close by the stage. After she exits, she leaves the door open....the most unGodly stench that you can imagine, follows her back to the bar. At that point, all her girlish cuteness was gone.

We immediately took a "brief break" and all went downstairs to the kitchen to smoke pot.

When we came back, she was gone. We never saw her again.

THE END

I`ll share a story...

This past summer, we played a 40th birthday party in a huge wedding tent...The bass player knew most of the people attending, so, he asked a cute lady to introduce us...Well, our band name is 9-1/2 Minutes...She introduced us as 9-1/2 Inches...The crowd roared and so did we...Priceless!!

Cheers

lol! That's a good one!

Here's another one:

A saxophonist friend of mine told me this one...He was playing a j.e.w. ish wedding party and at some point, there was a special loaf of bread that was to be served at some point for some traditional religious reason. Anyway, when the time came, no one could find the bread. Turns out, the drummer thought is was something left over from the earlier part of the dinner and so he put it in his bass drum case to take home and make sandwiches! Luckily, he was able to "find" it on a table a bit later on after realizing what he had done.

I can kind of relate to this story because for a long time, playing weddings and private parties usually meant there would be lots of free gourmet food and so I would bring a couple of tupperware containers with me to those gigs and eat like a king for a few days!

Rod, you are my new hero! I have NEVER been introduced as 9 1/2 inches! Never even close!
