Well done John. A question though, how do you pick the kid? This sounds kind of strange, but a few years ago I gave a needy kid a bass guitar and small bass amp. A week later I saw the gear in a pawn shop. The kid's worthless dad pawned them when the kid was at school and there was nothing any of us could do about it...

That's a sad story. If the guy pawned the drums to feed his family it's tragic, but he can't be faulted. If he hocked them for drugs or drink, then it's tragic on two counts.

No answer to that one. None of us can tell the future or we'd all be living at the race track. You do what you think is right and then hope for the best outcome. It's all anyone can do. There are no guarantees in Life at all.

Don't allow that kind of doubt to stop you from helping others. You'll get burned from time to time, but for the most part, some good will have been done for all the others.

The dad got a glorious day in a local tavern, the kid got a broken heart, and I got a lesson I never forgot. The kid wound up in foster care a couple years later and wound up in trouble a few times. He's an adult now and I hear he's doing pretty well on his own, real job etc.

Since the "lesson" I donated a set of CB700 drums to a kid whose dad was laid off and that turned out well. I also donated a few guitars to a summer camp and that turned out well. I don't get the opportunity very often and I don't buy and sell as much as I did then, but I'm more careful now.

I was just wondering...

Mikey - Kool! I just wanted them to go to a kid who was learning and who needed the gear. Thanks to you, mission accomplished.

If you still have it, I'll take that tone control knob you offered me. Be nice to finish off that old snare. Thanks...
