Well, I took the new Ludwig/DW Frankenstein kit out last night for it's first gig. I put Remo CS heads all around and the kit sounded fantastic. It's going out again tonight to play at a local VFW club. BTW, that's a new 6.5x14 Gretsch cob Brooklyn snare, ya baby.Clapping Happy2

Cool. awesome looking kit.
Very nice. Those look sharp together. Love the Frankenkit. I have one too I sometimes use.
Black Galaxy Ludwig bass drum with a Silver sparkle Gretsch floor and Silver sparkle Camco Tom. I see your using a Black Dot batter head and coated reso on your bass drum. How are you tuning that? I have the same combo on one of my 24" and dialing it in. Seems to have a lot of attack and punch. I heard they are basically Ambassadors with that black dot applied to it. I actually cut 1 inch strips of window sealer and put one at each lug on the outer rim of the batter head and a felt strip on the reso and batter.
I took Steve Maxwell's tuning suggestion and have the batter side of the toms tuned slightly higher than the resonant side, but the kick is just the opposite. There is also a DW or Evans pad inside the kick that touches both heads along with an old sock stretched out horizontally across the batter side, that seems to work pretty well. If I really want to get that "Bonham" sound, I just keep the pad from touching the batter side.
Looks great.
Would that pairing make it a LuDWig?
Nice looking kit. Orphans can play nice together.
Always nice to see Orphans make a family together -great kit and keep that family together.
