Really enjoying Frank Butler, who Papa Joe Jones dubbed "the greatest drummer, at this time". Too much of a showman for many jazzers, probably why Papa Joe liked him, his use of singles around the set reminds me of Tony Williams.

Amazing drummer. The ride work is brilliant. The left hand comping between snare and bass is nothing to sneeze at either. Talented, tasty player. No doubt that Tony probably copped a few conceptual things from this guy. As we all do, if you're going to steal, steal from the best.

He recorded 'Seven Steps To Heaven' with Miles Davis in Hollywood, who re-recorded the up tempo numbers in New York with Tony Williams.

Back in the day, I was always flabbergasted at what a monster talent Tony was and at such a young age. Some guys are just born with it... the rest of us have to make do with what God gave us and a ton of hard work and dedication.

And unfortunately for some of us, God has a sense of humor! :D

When I was standing at the crossroad, I should have cut my deal with old Scratch while I had the chance!
