A drum store owner told you $5000! First, there's just not much real interest in concert tom kits. Next, unfortunately, Slingerland kits in general never seem to get as much respect and $$$ as Gretsch, Ludwig and Rogers. Not sure why. I've got some beautiful Slingerland kits, but won't sell them at this point in time because of the lower value.
As for a true value on your kit, with no disrespect, you might be lucky to get $1500. Let's see what other members have to say.

What store if you don't mind me asking gave you this value?
Curtis
I'd even go under $1,000. That's not a desirable finish as well, unfortunately. I don't mind it but I recall someone here selling a standard 22/16/13/12 kit in the same finish a few years ago for $400 and it sat awhile before he sold it. I mean you can list them for whatever price you desire but you may wait a long time to get any interest.
ps. On the plus side those are very good sounding, constructed drums. I'd would actually love to mess around with them. Not own them though. No room :)
The market is way too soft to support -insane- prices. Your music store guy really did you a disservice when he quoted you that price. You're hearing from drummers here and the community seems to be speaking with a single voice regarding your off-the-wall asking price. If you're open to advice...
The shipping costs for a kit that size is going to be astronomical. It's an out-of-date kit because of the currently unpopular concert toms and the weight of a *COW kit (*Chrome Over Wood) in general. Ask for $950 + shipping and keep your fingers crossed you get a bite. Asking for $5000 only causes drummers who know the market... to laugh, or dismiss it out of hand. Go $1000 or under and you 'may' be able to sell it.
I have no skin in the game, just offering some realistic advice.

I agree!
Concert toms are not desireable. There are perhaps, a few folks that don't mind them. If the finish is in good condition(which COW is easily scuffed), you might get near that $1k mark. Those are a lot of drums. Unless they pick them up, I'd say you're in the $250 and up shipping range too.
Good Luck!

I am a Slingerland guy from top to bottom. but the music store quote is simply not going to happen. under 1000.00 at best. concert tom kits don't sale well at all.
