Greetings:
This is a kit that I believe was branded as "The Liverpool" that is no longer for sale anywhere, at least to the best of my internet research capability. It has really nice look to it, and the shells are thin and sing nicely! My best guess is that the shells are poplar or basswood. The wrap is almost a cross between classic Black Oyster Pearl and a "Zebra Stripe" pattern.
The two rack toms have been cut down depth-wise professionally by Precision Drum Company out of New York, with the cut down side bearing edges also re-cut by Precision. They were originally power depths, a 10" deep 12", and an 11" deep 13". They have been cut so that they are now slightly less than standard depth. The 12" is now 7-3/4" deep (as opposed to the standard 8") and the 13" is 8-3/4" deep (as opposed to the standard 9"). This makes them unique and very easy to position while mounted on the bass drum. The resonant side was the side that was cut on both toms, so the tom bracket positioning would not be affected. Of the original lug holes, the outside hole was cut off, the inside hole has been filled in and is nearly hidden by the bottom hoop/head. You can see the interior shot in the response below. The 12" is pictured, but both rack toms look the same in that regard. The original vent hole was also filled in, because it would have been partially obstructed by the bottom hoop/head. You can see in the last photo in the response below how it looks from the outside. The filled in holes have been colored black, so they are barely noticeable, and are mostly hidden by the bottom hoop/head. They are less noticeable in person than they are in the picture. Vent holes have been replaced with the threaded 1/2" type. Seams are tight on the wrap and the wrap is flawless; not a mark on it anywhere. Newer coated ambassadors on the tops of the toms.
None of the rest of the drums have been altered, other than the vent hole has been replaced on the floor tom with a threaded on type (same initial hole, no new hole drilled). Seams are tight everywhere on the wrap, and again, it's flawless. No scuffs or dings at all. Floor tom and snare have 2.3 mm hoops top and bottom. Floor tom is 16" x 16", Bass is 16" x 22" and the snare is 5.5" x 14". Ambassadors on the snare and a Suede Ambassador on the floor tom. The snare has a very deep snare bed. Not sure if that was factory or from a previous owner, but it is very responsive. Bass Drum has an Aquarian Superkick II and a Ludwig logo head on the front, which is self muffled. Rack toms have 6 lugs per head, all the other drums have 8 lugs per head.
A few things to disclose about this kit:
1. The chrome plating on the lugs is not very good, and as such, the chrome plating has started to flake off (or is completely flaked off) on about 40% of the lugs. Honestly though, the lugs don't look that much different, just a like a matte version of themselves. In the first photo in the response below, you can see two lugs on the bass drum. The top one has the chrome intact, the bottom one has the chrome gone on the side that is facing the camera, so you can see that it honestly doesn't look that much different. The hole spacing is 1", so if you wanted to you could always replace the lugs down the road.
2. The double tom holder is non-original. It is a modern Ludwig, and works fine, and also has an accessory clamp for a cymbal arm.
3. One of the bass drum spurs is missing a rubber foot.
This a really nice sounding kit that is just cool all around. I would keep it, but I'm running out of room and need to part with some kits. I have these listed locally for $400, VDF Member Price: $350 plus shipping. I am also willing to meet within 100 miles of the Cincinnati Area, which would include Lexington, Louisville, Indianapolis, Columbus and Dayton.
PM with any questions or additional details/pictures.
Thanks!
