For Sale: Ludwig snare drums

Have two snares for sale. I am pricing these to move. I've got way too many and need the funds. Hopefully one of you would like these in your snare arsenal. Probably worth more in parts than my prices. But I don't have the heart to strip a good complete working drum.

First up is a Ludwig 6.5x14 8 lug Black/White badge steel snare drum. Features 8 large bowtie lugs. Not exactly sure when this model was made. It looks like new though! Chrome shell and all hardware look fantastic. Serial number is hard to read but looks like 904380. This is a welded seam shell. No date inside. The 8 lug shell sounds full and yet has a good snappy crack to it. Everything works well. No tone controls on these models. Wires are 20 strand. If you've been looking to add a steel shell model to your arsenal, this beauty may be the one for you. Heads look great. These were the precursors to the highly popular Supralite drums. Has been completely detailed, tuned and ready to ship to you.

Please feel free to pm me here or email to mikelayton@bellsouth.net if you have any questions. Thanks for checking it out.

Next up is a Ludwig 5x14 8 lug model with black wrap. This is much like the chrome over wood model only with the black wrap instead. Even though these have black/white badges, these are not import models. These are 4 ply drums made in the Ludwig Monroe NC plant. This one has the granitone interior. Serial number is 5006205. This has a p85 strainer and matching block logo snare butt with large round knob muffler. Has 60's Ludwig 12 strand wires and new Ludwig snare cords. Will come with good playable heads and has been completely disassembled and detailed. Has new matching tension rods as well. Drum looks very nice overall and sounds fantastic. These are good candidates for Jazz Festival rewrap replicas as the lug patterns are the same as bowties and imperials.

Personally, I love those style of lugs. I have them on a Rocker kit and I think they are cool because you dont see them that much.

Thank you!

I can vouch for how great those 4-ply Granitone shells sound. I had a chance to play one and I was really impressed with the quality of the sound that the drum produced. For under $100 you'll be getting a -great sounding- snare.

Your equipment is always among the best being offered. I'm not at all surprised they always sell fast. More than half the stuff you put up for sale I want to buy for myself! :D

That black (Rocker?) snare was very tempting. In high school we had a black Rocker kit with the 6.5 deep snare........B/W badge, granitone interior. It sounded killer!

I think that snare is gone now - probably stolen by a student being led astray.......was very tempted to buy this one and donate it to the school to complete the kit again.

Someday I would like to restore the kit for the school - but the band teacher was not very grateful towards the idea because they don't need to play it anymore: she got a "great deal" on a Yamaha kit for $1400.

Now that black kit sits in a cabinet all scuffed up and dirty and all. Bought brand new in 1987.

I had a great day! Instead of sleeping in and wasting the day, I got up at 8 and I had all my slacking done by noon!
