This is a gem of a vintage snare drum! '55-'57 WFL 6.5x14 8 lug 902L model. This is listed in the '55 catalog as the Ray McKinley model and the '57 catalog as the Symphonic snare drum. In lacquer, they were available in Blue/Silver, Black/Gold and White. Nickel hardware looks very nice. Could always be polished to an even higher lustre if desired. Duco paint is in very nice condition. Many of these have heavy flaking. This one does not. Has some light crazing on the panel beside the badge on the non strainer side. Near the snare butt end you can see one area at the bottom that shows the maple underneath. The finish has not been touched up at any point. This drum is completely original with the exception of the heads. Has the super hard to find WFL amber tip 2517124 18 strand wires ($75 value) that are designed for this P87 Classic strainer. Strainer is smooth and easy to use. Nickel over brass hoops with drop gates on the snare side hoop. These older drum have deeeep snare beds. The bearing edges are nice and smooth. I took a picture of one 8" area that shows some small nicks/holes. Not sure what caused this. It is not up on the edge itself, therefore not affecting sound. Has a red ink date stamp of what looks like July 31 195_. Clear Mahogany interior has a 14 written in white chalk designating the size. Has a smudge of blue to indicate the color. And has the initials A.R. inside. Can also see the mark on the maple (bird's eye) re-ring indicating the mark for the snare bed. Neat stuff!! The drum is clean as a whistle and sounds amazing. Has a like new Aquarian American Vintage on the batter and an older Remo Ambassador on the snare side. All it needs is you!
