OK, I somehow screwed up the original post trying to edit and locked it by mistake, so I'm re-uploading both the post and the Craigslist ad since I'm getting a security pop-up uploading the pictures here:

Very cool player's kit. 1968 20/12/14 Gretsch Round Badge in rare olive satin flame finish. Very good condition, modern heads fit, sounds great. Pratt muffler, paper tags and all tone controls intact and functional, all original hoops.

The Tom mount is early 70s Gretsch - the original mount was a rail consolette and the holes were covered with bolts. Satin flame finish has some spider webbing but not nearly as bad as the average set from this time period.

Unfortunately this is only for local pick-up in NYC area (or I can meet somewhere close). Zero experience packing/shipping a drum kit properly so I don't want to incur any UPS disasters.

Like it, but local pickup isn't happening for me. I wonder if Steve Maxwell might want it if you took it to the downtown shop.

I actually bought it from Maxwell years ago! And now I’ve got my dream set, a Sonor teardrop with an 18” bass drum - which ain’t cheap. May just trade it in if I can’t move it.

The shells are fairly similar (no re-rings) but the edges are different. The Sonor is a lot more versatile with tuning IMO. The Gretsch does bop tuning well and the 12" tom also worked well at medium tuning because the heads were loose on the shell so they didn't flap out. But I never got that mid range on the 14" FT. It went from a thud to a 'boing' with no middle ground. The Sonor can do just about anything and tunes up easily. And the hardware is exponentially better. The Gretsch mounts and hardware are better for committing violent crimes than holding up the drums.

But the Gretsch set was still a great set - it just had its own vibe and stayed with that vibe.

That’s because of your head choice if you try different heads , you’ll be shocked as those old Gretsch , are some of the best there ever was

The set was mine. I had the original heads on them and a modern permatone I believe. They are great drums, I just prefer the Teardrops for what I do. I put these drums on consignment at Maxwell Drums in NYC. No luck with Craigslist and was in and out of town (and have zero experience packing drum kits) so I'll leave it up to them. There was one on reverb with a 16” floor Tom and a matching snare that was made in the 90s. Probably a year or two ago. This one is just the three drums with the small floor Tom.
