You have to look at it from a reader`s view,..in your post you wrote FULL monogram, with relation, and then ..EXACTLY like the drums for sale. It can be misinterpreted Still, Buddy has two FT and a very different Bd head, so yes they played together, and maybe Buddy changed the logo with each drum kit, and left the FT out once or twice, It`s not Exactly like,..it`s similar kit,..and FULL related monogram !! It`s gonna be hard to get the right paperwork, especially for guy`s like you who would love to have a Buddy owned and played kit. But short of get`n hair outta the hoops-head contact and doing a DNA search, it may never be known. I`m sorrry I don`t have a prestigious vocabulary or skilled in sales, but what you wrote mis-lead me !! Are you gonna Order me back to port now ??

YES!... get back to port!! No intention on misleading at all... sorry that you saw it that way. There is bound to be "small differences" in the monogrammed head with each set as those were ALL done by hand back in the day. Contingent on who did the painting, well... there will be slight differences. Since this has all started though, between myself, Steve Maxwell, and Don Bennett, well... we are all convinced that the set the seller has was indeed, one of Buddy's. He now has supporting paperwork, etc. It is a very interesting piece for sure! Regarding the two floor toms:

Yup... one is missing. Perhaps it never came off the bus that night... who really knows?! Buddy rarely ever played with just one floor tom... even when all it did was hold his towel!

Drumming at that tempo, sweating happens in five minutes, Moon had one just for his drinks. I kept my towel on the FT leg. I looked rediculous with a headband on so the towel worked too !!

Interesting to see if a $$$ buyer get`s the head and what it`s gonna go for !!

It`s a drum,.....Hit It !!

TommyP very cool find on the You Tube vid. I was hoping this topic would come back up again. I remember when he posted the kit for sale here. I do wish he had some better pics of the kit.

Is that a picture of Buddy Playing a WFL kit framed with the bass head? I have seen the single floor tom B&W pic posted here before.

FFR428!...

Are you asking about the picture with the bass drum head framed in the background? That is the set that we have been discussing of course, and... the head in the frame on the back wall is the actual front/resonant head from those drums. The original owner.. ( the guy that got them off of Buddy's bus ) .. removed the front head and had it framed back in the day, or it might have been the current owner. I know he told me about that, but I don't remember exactly what he said. I guess he really liked the BR/HJ monogram, and didn't wish for anything to happen to it. Regarding the B&W pic of Buddy:

That is a very well known picture of Buddy sitting behind a set of WFL's back in the 50's. It's not clear if those are HIS drums as we can't see the entire front head of the bass drum. I do have this in my collection though!.. ( as well as a couple more from this session ) .. so let me see if I can have a look. I will say that Buddy did play with a single FT here and there, but it was most definitely the exception, and not the rule. Even with his "small bands" he generally played two floor toms.. and .. I noticed when doing research on Buddy that EARLY on he played BOTH floor toms, and quite a bit at that! I noticed a decline in the actual usage of the 2nd floor tom after his Rogers endorsement. By the time he was with Slingerland.. ( late 1967, early 1968 ) .. he used it PRIMARILY to hold his towel!

Hi TommyP.

Yes I was wondering if the object in the upper left corner of the framed BD head was a picture of Buddy playing his Ludwigs? It looks like a picture but wasn't sure what it was.

Thanks,

Glenn.

Glenn!...

It's a picture of Buddy with Harry James, but playing his Rogers in this case, which makes it 60's era. The seller sent the pic to me, but because it is being hosted by photobucket, the file size is very small... like a postage stamp. I have seen that particular pic many times.. and also have it in my collection. Let me see if I can get it up here for you.

Hey John!...Yes they are legit. I helped this seller with the dating and dialing in the when/where. There were some areas that he has taken some "heat" on, as in no supporting "paperwork/provenance".. plus .. he was originally asking for an exorbitant amount of coin, and that scared off a lot of "possibly interested parties". It would appear now that he has located some proof according to his ad! The FRAMED bass drum head hanging on the back wall is the original head off this set. Buddy WAS with Harry James during his WFL endorsement, that is a fact. The small "problem" is locating an actual picture of Buddy PLAYING this set while with Harry James. I went through ALL my stuff from this endorsement period, and couldn't come up with a picture. PLENTY of Buddy playing his Rogers Celebrity's while with Harry James... but nothing with the WFL's. I think the main reason for that is not many pics were taken during this period. My BR collection is HUGE!!!!!, and I had nothing. Still... I believe they are absolutely legit!.. and Buddy did indeed play WFL's while with Harry James BEFORE switiching to Rogers in 1960.Tommyp

Hey Tommy,

Are we talking the same kit here that's listed on ebay?

http://www.ebay.com/itm/1958-ludwig-wfl-buddy-rich-drum-/200692654388?pt=Vintgae_Drums_Percussion&hash=item2eba36e134

One thing that strikes at me is and I'm hoping you'll know the answer is that the bass is a 22 x 14.

What period of time was Buddy using a 22 inch bass? I'm not familiar with that, was it his small group days JATP and freelance stuff?

It seems strange that he'd use that size bass with Harry and the band.

Thanks in advance.

Nope... we're not talkin' about the same set, as the one on eBay is NOT the set here. You are also correct... Buddy played a 14X24, but even more telling than that: Didja notice that the eBay WFL's have nickle hardware? The Buddy WFL's here have chrome, as they should. Plus... ALL early Keystone badges on these, the eBay snare has a "transition badge"... and it goes on and on! The "Buddy WFL's" are 14x24.. 9X13.. 16X16.. 51/2X14.. ALL hardware.. with everything in chrome. Two totally different sets. BTW, I think the guy on eBay didn't mean that those drums WERE Buddy's... just that Buddy played a set like them, which is of course... kind of a stretch!
