Just curious , when you practice? Do you wear socks, shoes, or just your barefeet.
:D
Depends on what type of music I'm playing. If I'm playing blues or country, then I will play with just socks on my feet. If I'm playing heavier music, I will play with my shoes on for that heavier hit!
Cheers
Used to play in heavy Harley boots...
Nowadays, it's light-weight shoes. I did Converse All Stars (Chuck Taylors) for a long time. That works good. I just play in my Nike Shox now.
As long as it's lightweight and provides good traction on the footboard, I'll take it.
When I gig, I play my right foot without shoe, just sock. Left foot, shoe. When I practice, I use whatever I happen to be wearing.
Right foot ballet slipper.
Practice with a kung foo slipper - very light weight. Like to have Chuck Talors for gigs - not always sure what is on the floor.
I like to play in Vans; flat sole, flat insole. That seems to give me the best contact with the pedal board.
Cheap dress shoes with 1/2" heels make my legs hurt the day-after a gig; so imagine my surprise seeing Roy Haynes some years ago, swinging his a$$ off while wearing cowboy boots - with the pants' legs tucked in!
There's also some metal chick drummer I've seen who wears like 5-6" heels while playing double-kicks.
I dunno how they can do that!
I've played in cowboy boots. The heel makes it a little weird. I usually wear Italian made footwear for all performances, and at my studio. Looking swank is part of my schtick. Home practice in sneakers. I find barefoot and shirtless drumming propels the old negative stereotypes about percussionists. We already get enough flack about beating on things with sticks. Why make yourself appear any more neolithic?
I do like the picture of the barefoot shoes :)~
converse lowtops ,they are lightweight and very flexable..
