So the latest issue of DRUM! contains a full page Istanbul Mehmet ad announcing their exclusive access to Tony W's cymbals from his Miles quintet days. Looks like they are moving forward with a TW Signature line based on these pies. I'll be curious to see/hear the results but, haven't we been here before?

We often forget that the sound of the cymbals we heard on his albums and in concerts had as much to do with the micing, the recording engineer, the acoustics of the recording space, the sticks used, and last, but certainly not least, TW's technique. One of my son's Istanbul K's is a heavy 20" new stamp which sounds clangy and metallic live, but for some reason sounds very good when recorded. When it comes to cymbal sounds we need to be careful what we wish for. :)
