Fluffed-up Speed King beater?

I've tried a bunch of experiments on old Ludwig Speed King beaters, but have never really gotten a successful result. Haven't yet resorted to using spray on car interior dye/paint. Jeez, maybe that work...

But how on earth did this beater get the new-do? Pretty amazing!

That's one fuzzy beater, gotta be blow dried!

Maybe he threw it in with some hardware to soak for a day or two

I remember music stores selling those LW fuzzy beaters. I don't think it was the stock SP beater it must have been replaced. I tried a few LW wood beaters way back when and remember looking at the fuzzy's too.

Maybe if you put it into a drill or lathe you could spin it and use an old comb or brush on it?

It's kinda crazy. I don't think I'll be able to make one from a regular beater.... On the other hand there's a bunch of them around.. Soak it in hot water an Dawn (what else?) and then spin it on a drill? Or maybe te dishwasher...

Or forget about the whole project!

Looks like a older version of the Ludwig L1285 lambswool beater. I see the new ones are black but older ones were natural like your pic. They made one to fit the SK pedals. Maybe someone has a old stock beater?

Why on earth would anyone want a beater like that?

I could only see a use for it in the quietest of music.

you'd be surprised. a fluffy beater and an un- muffled bass gives a woofer effect. its pretty wild sounding. if you get a chance, try one. its a trip.
