Finally! Found another vintage set (Star)

Loading...

Hey all,

Haven't been posting in a while, but I picked up this baby last week!

A MIJ Star 4-piece kit. It's in unbelievable shape; wrap is fantastic, hardware and attachments all there, wood looks fine (although I haven't peeked in all the drums yet), and I even got a set of custom-made green vinyl cases in the with the deal. I'm pretty happy about it!

To be honest, I gave each drum a clean-up and tune, and - leaving the original, ancient heads on there - played it a bit....and it sounds pretty bad. : )

But I'm going to get some new heads for the set and see how she sounds. After that, I'll probably do what I did with the last one and lacquer the interior shells (I followed VDF guides on this previously...).

I do have a couple questions that you guys could help me out with, though:

- what's the name of this wrap colour? I love it...like a green bowling ball, sort of?

- I got two stands along with the kit that seem higher quality than the set itself. A Premier snare stand, and a similar looking Olympic flush-base cymbal stand (picture is below). Is there anything special about these?

Thanks in advance for the help, guys,

-380

What an awesome find you have there I bought one this summer in the same finish called oyster pearl some call it blue oyster pearl, you will notice that the color is blue underneath the lugs. What size are your drums, mine are 13, 16 and 22 without a snare and have round badges with the re-rings. Here is a link to my thread.

Nice kit. The flush based stands are cool and look to be in great shape. The Premier snare one is pre - Lokfast but probably worth a few bucks to someone looking to complete a kit. Same with the Oly cymbal stand. If it had been a Lokfast one in that condition it would fetch $50-$70 because they are so awesome

haha - thanks guys.

Trust me, though, these things are more or less hen's teeth around where I live; I don't stumble over nice full vintage sets very often for sure.

I actually just finished putting new heads on these suckers and they sound 600% better...whew!

On the subject of drumheads - the Aquarian Super Kick II batter head is rocking my world! Great BD head, and cheap, too!

Beautiful! I love the oyster pearl wrap, ant on a complete kit! I had the same badge & wrap in a 22/12/14 without the snare. The bass had the fattest tone.

Congrats!Clapping Happy2
