Very interested in this thread. I recently got a Gretsch round badge BDP bass drum shell with around 8 extra holes, but ALL of them small. I'm going to cut patches out of some spare BDP wrap and glue them over the holes, the fill the holes with wood filler. Hopefully it will come out looking decent!

Hi Rob/ i have covered and repaired many kits with wrap- the BEST remedy in my personal experience is cutting a piece of donor wrap to the absolute precise size and gluing in/ then carefully dabbing clear around the 'seam'- (I use automotive urethane as I paint cars) but 'maybe' clear fingernail polish (if it's thin enough) would work- make sure you are meticulous and exact and the repair cannot be seen from about 2 feet away... sand ALL the edges with super fine grit before gluing in and make it fit 'exactly'... you can do it!
Would this be ok do you think. To fill the tiny gap around the plug where the new wrap has gone in. Don’t want it to hurt the old wrap.

I've never used that specific brand -but being a water based acrylic I wouldn't think anything could go wrong- just be sparing doing fine little applications/ letting dry/ repeat/ until finally level. If the 'gap' is very small I've even used a toothpick as an applicator. (or get the smallest fine liner brush you can...) Try to keep it off the surrounding wrap to minimize any buildup- good luck again! As anyone reading will hopefully see- these repairs can be made at home with patience!
