Fibes Snare

Loading...

I recently purchased a vintage FIBES fiberglass snare manufactured in Farmingdale, New York.

Is there a major difference in quality and/or performance between a fiberglass shell and an acrylic shell or are they fairly comparable?

THANKS in advance for your time regarding this issue.:)

This may sound goofy, but to my ears even fiberglass has a warmer, more pronounced low end frequency than Acrylic.

Both can be harsh ( and loud as hell ) or very sweet depending on the head combo.

A theory I've heard bandied about is that the more reflective the shell, the

more pronounced the sound / attack of the heads.

FG is also just slightly more tolerant of abuse than acrylic.
