Fibes Fivel

Loading...

New member here saying hello and wondering if anyone on here has any experience restoring Fibes with the Fivel finish. I just purchased a blue, very faded, set and I`m wondering if there is a fabric that could be used to recover the kits? I know the original finish is sprayed on at the factory so that option is out.

It may be best to just wrap them but if so, what is the best way to remove the fivel finish? I realize this will be work intensive but I`m willing.

Thanks in advance and any/all help is greatly appreciated.

Only shot I have so far is from the gracious seller. I`ll shoot more once I get them in my paws.

Would it be possible to get a fabric stain to adhere to the fivel material?

(Or bad idea?)

Alrighty, got the 3 shells yesterday from Fedex and just finished taking some pics. Good bit of work ahead of me but I`m doubting the finish on these shells are actually Fivel. I read on a thread that Fibes Fivel was a material sprayed on in the factory. Could someone please clarify if this is true?

If true, then these shells are not Fivel because they have seemingly been just re-covered in a cloth material as seen in the pictures below.

I`m not upset if that is the case because I really didn`t pay much to get these and have them shipped from Tampa. The shells/hardware alone are well worth it. I have other pics that I can post if needed. Just let me know which angles.

Any and all help is greatly appreciated.

Yeah, looks like a "custom" wrap ;)

What's underneath?

Just the fiberglass shells. The cloth came off easily which is fine with me. Now I can customize it to my liking which is kinda what I was hoping for anyway. As sad a shape as some of the exterior/lugs are, the shells are still round and flat. I`ve cleaned up some of the lugs and looks like I`ll only have to replace about five of them. I`ve never seen chrome plating come off like that. I hope that isn`t the standard for Fibes lugs. I have other Fibes kits and some Corder kits and never even run across any major pitting on any of those lugs. These shells must`ve survived hurricane Hugo or something.
