Fibes chrome over fiberglass. Buy or no buy....

Loading...

Hi there,

First post so I hope you will all reply like there's no tomorrow!

I found a nice 24-16-13 Fibes chrome over fiberglass kit in the Netherlands (where I'm from). Here's a link to the site:

http://muziek.marktplaats.nl/drumstellen.../406649001-70-er-jaren-fibes-drumstel-24-bass-16-en-13-toms.html

It's in Dutch, so you probably won't understand it, but it says the kit is original except for the floor tom legs. Check the pics on the bottom of the page for the kit.

I can get it for 425 euros (approx. 565 US dollars).

Is that a good price? And any thoughts on these drums?

Thanks.

It SEEMS like a decent price to me, especially including cases, but I'm no Fibes expert. However, I did use a kit that same size and era in a studio once and really dug the sound of it. On that front I can recommend it.

Currently playing for loud rock and roll gigs:
1982 Ludwig Classic in white Cortex, 24-13-14-18 + Coliseum snare
For quieter gigs:
Early '70s Whitehall Tiger Eye Pearl 20-12-14-14
Neglected but thinking about:
Early '70s Sonor Champions in Rosewood, 22-12-13-16

Thanks man. I intend to use for recording too, next to rocking it out on stage. What kind of music did you record with it?

Sort of a rock-soul-funk thing. We played originals and covers from Al Green and Willie Bobo to the Stones and Sabbath. I believe the Fibes kit was used on Broken Meter on our old MySpace page: http://www.myspace.com/themoils/music

Bruin I am by no means a Fibes expert. But I will tell you this back in the 80's there was a local band called "Rat Race Choir" The drummer Steve Loungo had a huge Double Bass Kit of Chrome over Fiberglass Fibes. I know that in a live setting they were incredible sounding drums. You may be able to find some old Rat Race stuff on You tube. They were a great Zeppelin and The Who tribute band but also played Floyd and other classic stuff. Staeve later was a member of John Entwistle's touring band. Hope this helps

Rat Race were great! Saw them many times in the 80's also. As for Steve Loungo how many guys could sing and play "Good Times Bad Times" and nail both the vocal and the drums!

Thanks for the help guys!

Just went to pick up the kit and it looks/sounds great. The guy is the first owner and he also has the 12", 14", and 18" toms which he uses as a jazzkit right now and a 14" sft snaredrum.

I made him an offer for the whole lot and he is going to think about it...
