Bummer about the gig mate, but what the others have said is spot on. I think you'll just have to chalk this one up to experience and be wary next time. But don't let it discourage you or make you want to quit. You were obviously dealing with rank amateurs who probably have a sh!t marriage anyway, so let them destroy themselves and find yourself a better band with people who know what they're doing and already know that relating to the other band members is Priority One. There's plenty out there, so don't give up!

All the best mate,

Trev :)

Just to add on, I'd like to say I think that what Bart said was spot on, if I had my head together enough I'd have said the exact same thing, the music world / band scene is full of things like this happening. I've had loads of it, but that last bit of advise Bart gives is the best philosophy.

Watched some videos on YT. Pretty stock stuff. I had a similar experience with a couple that did country music in the 80's. A lot of stories that ended up being...stories.

Sorry you encountered some rotten fruit. Certainly some words of wisdom have been left here. I have two polar opposite experiences to share. One is similar to yours, the other the way it should be.

So last year I got recommended for a local NY/CT band. The singer told me of his previous band ( which was somewhat known here in CT ) told me he toured Brazil for three weeks, etc etc... Had a full album out ( 100% professionally done ) and the music was good. So I got on board. Well shortly after joing I find out from good friends who have been around ( and very reliable sources ) he played one show in Brazil and much of what he told me was BS. So we playing our 2nd show as a full band. Set list was 8 songs. Song 7 he breaks a string and tried to stop the song, meanwhile me, the bassist, and rhythm guitarist shook our heads no and kept playing. Long story short I joined the band in May. I quit by Mid August. Granted I bowed out gracefully. The band would rehearse in NYC and it ( and truthfully ) was becoming increasingly difficult for me to make the hour and a half trip both ways a few times a week. For a while they came to me half the time, but the studio in my town closed. So that ended the ease of that. What I learned from this guy is that some people love to boast, promise, etc... And the more I hear from the get go, the less I believe.

Now for the opposite -

Now granted the show hasn't happened yet, but already I can see professionalism like never before. So a friend of mine recently came by for a snare and had asked me if I had been contacted about the Delaware show. I had no idea to what he was talking about so I said no. He then put a guy named Brian in touch me about being hired for a one off show in Delaware on October 21st ( gave me all the details, other bands,etc... ) I even looked up the show, and no BS there. Now with regard to Brian, he has been around. He has been in bands that have opened for bands like Kansas and has played 20,000 crowds, yet none of this was ever mentioned. No boasting, no " I'm so and so ", just concerned with the job at hand in Oct. So first I was one of three guys who was going to audition, then one dropped. Now I'm not sure what happened to the other guy, but I was asked and scheduled in for the next three weeks of practice. From what I know me, the guitar player and bass player are hired guns. We all have a copy of the material and the set list and have been doing homework in preparation for the rehearsals. Even Brian was a bit taken back on how dedicated we are to the material and that we're going to make sure when we all get into the room, we're 100% on each song. I'll keep everyone posted as to how this all transpires, but from the phone conversations and the FB band chats, this is a solid deal.

It's sad some people out there just care about their endeavors and will use anyone and everyone they can to achieve their goals. But for as sad as it is, it's nice to know some people are humble and don't try and come off as bigger than life.
