Favorite Jazz Tune

I've thought long and hard on this one ... and I still can't narrow it down. There are so many great jazz performances and classics. Some cd's beg to be played start to finish time and again.

Lately, I've lived in the Morello / Brubeck area, for unfortunately obvious reasons. Everyone praises the Time Out and Time Changes cd's. But, I'm really digging the Near-Myth cd and the Jazz Impressions cd's (love the New York and Japan ones). The sound of the instruments are so pure and natural. Just simply beautiful.

So, what's your favorite jazz recording ... and why. If you know the rundown on the kit used, that would be marvelous information to include.

Joe used a sweet Ludwig SuperClassic in Silver Sparkle. 22,13,16 with a supra.

I would love to know his head choice ... if you happen to know.

Kinda Blue, Miles Davis.......aboslutely love the classic track So What. Jimmy Cobb's cymbal work was just amazing!

Wow. It's impossible to narrow it down to one. Sheesh, there are so many great tunes (thank you Jazz Masters). I couldn't even pick a favorite song from a favorite artist. It's like, logarithmically impossible!

For a hippie player in high school, listening to Swiss Movement (Eddie Harris and Les McCann) cut Compared To What was a real eye opener. Still one of my favorite songs.

Hey George! A band I was in in the early 70s did that tune in and around Seattle. It is a great one. Still timely too.
