Fake Shure Mics on Ebay

Loading...

Apparently there are many fake Shure mics being sold on ebay. The fakes are almost identical to real mics in appearance, even down to the packaging.

There are even fake Beta 52A bass drum mics. My advice is to buy from an authorized Shure dealer if buying them on ebay.

Below is a link to a pdf on 'how to spot a fake' sheet for reference. There are youtube videos showing how to spot them and there are numerous posts about fake Shure mics on 'gearslutz.com' and other sites.

I just purchased a Beta 52A and will check it when it arrives. I was unaware of how widespread fakes are, but I became suspicious because the mic was new and the price was $40 to $50 less than market. I'll update the post with my findings.

Some of the most popular Sure mics ever, so I'm not surprised they have been faked. Thanks for posting this information!

So how do the fakes sound and hold up? Are they worth the difference in price?

once the brass ceases to glitter, and the drum looses its luster, and the stage remains dark, all you have left is the timbre of family.

Just an update to this thread:

I received the kick mic; I emailed several photos of the mic and its interior components to a Shure rep. He could not confirm that it was an authentic mic, so i sent the mic back to the seller for a refund. I don't recommend buying Shure mics or other name-brand mics on ebay. There are too many fakes. There are Sennheiser fakes on there as well.

I had doubts of my mic because its weight was off by about 6 oz when compared to Shure's specs. Also, there was misplaced glue residue on the mic components as well. It looked sloppy. Otherwise the mic looked to be authentic.
