No, I am not talking about the silly, iron cross-shaped crashers with jingles. But the Gothic Radius intrigued me. I found a 22" (or was it 23") for something like $33 USD.

The sound sample sounds a bit like an old K ride. Who knows what my ear will tell me when I throw it onto the rack. I may even put a couple of rivets into one side. I am thinking of experimenting with stacking stuff on it.

Anyone here play one of these bad boys?

I am pic impaired.

However, for the thousand word description (not really): it is a stainless steel disc. Kinda sorta shaped like a flat ride (in a way).

Definitely more earthy than chimey. Yes, I am a roto tom spoke stacker, myself.

I checked out the link and they sound really cool. Some of the others they have sound like china or trash cymbals. I'm gonna check them out. Thanks for the link!

I never would have had a second thought about this brand until I did a search for "sound effects cymbals" and got this web site. The silly iron cross-shaped stuff frankly turned me right off of them. But the Gothic Radius intrigued me; the price made me want to see what it was all about!!!!!

Search on ebay for the best prices on the Gothic Radius...

I tried something with stacking cymbals!! I had a dead 16" dead crash with cracks laying around for at least ten tears and then I stacked it with a 12 wuhan china and a 10 sabian splash!! All of it is tight with thin fele between the top two and I have a Double earthy tone!!

Well, just got the 23" Gothic Radius home...

Interesting stuff here: If I wanted to get some weird, weird sound effects simply by holding the sheet of stainless steel by it's edges and warping it in the centre. Weird, weird, weird sounds!!!!

Playing it with 5A's definitely has that trashy, somewhat reminiscent of a K with a bit more metallicky sound. Tough to explain- it sounds old and new at the same time. But it is NOT a cymbal.

I can't wait to drill it for rivets. Will it replace my Paiste Blue Bell ride? Of course not!!! Would I be comfortable playing a soft ballad on it? Yes!!! It's dry and somewhat washy with a nice, defined ping, but never gets overly washy (mainly due to the lack of mass and the fact that it is NOT bronze) but doesn't crash worth a damn!!! It is great for those of us who want a cheaper alternative to buying a really expensive soft ride that could get destroyed by a harder touch. Purists would probably scoff at my assessment... It will also NEVER be a loud sound, but it would be fine for a coffee house gig and okay in a mic'd setting.

The sound sample on the Factory Metal Percussion site is amazingly accurate. Try it- you may like it...

Hi bunnyman. About the pics, if you can get them on your computer from your camera and they're saved in say, my pictures...you can resize them opening them in Windows paint. After the pics are in my pictures, right click on the pic and click on copy. Then right click again and click paste in an open area in my pictures to save a copy. Open up Windows paint and click file, then open, then pictures. Now locate your copied pic, click on it and then press open. Now viewing the pic on paint, click image, then resize/skew. In resize, (not skew) change the horizontal and vertical equally from say 100% to 80% in both horizontal and vertical. Then click out of paint and it will ask you if you want to save it..then click yes. If this didn't work, you only messed up the copy and still have the original. That's why I always make a copy first. Hope this may help.

Thanks for the tip; however, I have a Mac.

I have struggled with the pic thing, may try shrinkpictures.com, but frankly got thoroughly discouraged about trying to show pics, so I have stopped trying.

The difficult manner for posting pics is the ONLY thing I dislike about this site.
