external snare muffler

As we all know Ringo put his pack of smokes on his snare to muffle the sound. Another drummer I know puts his big fat "George Constanza"

' type wallet on his snare.I have used a small towel for a long long time. But when I switch to brushes I had to flip the towel off.Yesterday I bought one of them there.RINGS .How do you fellows like that Ring as compared to ANYTHING ELSE??.It shouldn't mess up my brush playing. Just a question I thought I should ask,and get some other ideas. Many Thanks,MME

I could have hade my own ring,but didnt have any beat up heads to cut up,but for 7.99 it seemed like a fair deal. M

I like using this external muffler it easily adjusts with the wing-nut.

I've never used a ring on my snare, but I have used one on my floor tom. Worked much better than my "George Constanza" that I previously used. The wallet was too much muffler; the ring is just right.

Rings should not be considered muffling, they affect the head/sound in a different way than simply damping the decay. Specifically, a ring enhances the fundamental note of a drum by completely damping the harmonics that exist at the perimeter of the head. The resulting sound is most evident on toms, but certainly applies to the snare (and kick) in the same way. (Conversely, a dot head somewhat dampens the fundamental note, accentuating the highs or attack, which is why dot heads are reputed to be louder.)

But rings and mufflers are different, in the same way that rods should not be considered quiet sticks. They are quieter, but they also make a different sound.

Hey,I got my 2 Rick-Rings and that did the trick.It took out the ring and a little loudness . Thanks for all of your help.MME
