Wow, these responses are great. Thank you, guys. Looks like I have some experimenting to do. Sadly I found out last night the threads on the diamond mounts are doing the same. I think helicoil re-thread should work best there. I solved a similar problem on my previous massive Slingerland rehab. I have a mechanic friend at work who can do this for me. I have to be honest, in that on a budget, needing to buy replacement chromes, has turned this project into something less than enjoyable. I haven't even started the bass drum yet.

I have re-threaded the bosses on Rogers Beavertail lugs from standard

8-32 to larger 10-32 or 10-24 with good results. Try one first.

You could just up grade to self tapping threads

This is exactly what I was going to suggest.
