Expensive hoop! Is it worth it?

Don't really know about what these are worth. And I understand they're worth what one will pay if you want it bad enough.

Do these rims usually start the bid this high? Is it that rare? I bought the snare side on Monday for $75 - maybe I got an exceptionally good deal?

Thoughts anyone?

So you think it's "not cheap" too. I know I'm not selling the drum when I get it restored - this is for the Dixieland snare I bought/won on eBay Saturday. I will restore it, tune the s**t out of it and Party!!

I will have one nice little drum..........worth a little fortune (to me only - lol). But - hey - it will be "Red Sparkle" and that will go a long way making me happy with this little "6lugger"

This is the beast as it was advertised on eBay - it's in the Post now.

Yep, thats about what these go for....mainly because the 6-lug is hard to find....the 8-lug are more common. Gretsch hasn't made a 6-lug snare in years, so anything you find will be NOS or very used. I guess I was lucky that the Dixieland I got was as complete as it was....

If I read this right, looks like it is saying, without saying, that they are making these with all the original stamp and the original process, not they are "NOS". Re-read it and see if that is what it sounds like to you. So, they may very well be many of them available, but they are new, new stock.....made on the old machine....

Got it this morning - I was the only bidder. Does that say something?

I maxed out HIGH because I wanted it........but being the only bidder, I got it for the original starting price of $119 + shipping of course.

I'm happy with that because I can't be bothered looking for one hoop all the time. I looked around on the web - lots - and asked a lot of people and I could not come up with another one out there.

I think I made the right choice.

What do the experts (you) say?

Photos & text below taken from seller's eBay site:

This an authentic Gretsch 6-Lug, 14" Die-Cast Chrome Hoop.

These were made on original Brooklyn tooling. These used the old Gretsch process: Hand polished first, then copper plating, then nickel plating, then bright chrome plating. Very rare.

Made from old Gretsch USA tooling and same exact hoop as used on all the great Gretsch drums of the '60s through 2000'.

If you want the real thing, this is it!!

Original Retail Price: $210.00
