Ever heard of TRUETONE drums?

Loading...

Oh great drum gurus:

Has anyone ever heard of a "TRUETONE" drum from the 60's??

A picture of the badge is attached.

Please enlighten me...

(and pardon my ignorance if this post belongs in the non-USA forum)

Thanks!

Oh foolish one....it is indeed a non-USA MIJ-ish type shell thing...or something...like that...hehehe...

Hey Jeff, it is a stencil. One of the easy ways to tell is look closely at the flake in the wrap. It looks like flakes of glass, where as most American wrap, particularly Ludwig, has a form, or maybe they are hexagonal or octagonal. The lugs, are they Slingerland-ish?

Got more pix? Is it a complete kit?

Thanks for that info...

Attached is the only other picture. Just the snare (and I can't even see the throw!).

To be honest, I'm not particularly interested in the drum, but I figured I'd offer it to my collector buddy and/or one of you guys. I actually spoke with the owner who wants all of $35 for the drum.

I figure $35 plus a few bucks for my trouble to retrieve it plus shipping might make for a good deal for somebody...

It is a Star. The lugs are virtually identical to Slingerland snare lugs. The price is right, and someone that needs a blue sparkle will find it a nice one. Looks like, from the size of the grommet to be a thin shell. FYI, if it looks like your buddy is going to take it, I can advise you to: 1) Check the snare beds, if none are there, cut some in with sandpaper. 2) Then tell him to snad the interior smooth and lacquer or tung oil it. If using tung oil, apply at least 2 coats, if not 3. Lacquer, 1-2 should be enough, if this is the thin shell. If it is the thicker shell, then sanding and tung oil or lacquer, single coat should be sufficient.

From jegellman

If my guy is not interested, would you want it?

Do I want it? Yes. I cannot, however, afford another drum right now. I am in the middle of paying for a box of drums from another member at the moment. I only wish I were in better financial condition, but it is what it is. Someone will take it at that. 35 is the standard, going rate for un-restored snares. Mine are quite different than a factory stock, and sound quite good. I have one out right now that I sold to a young man a few months ago, a Star 5 ply w/rings. It is being recorded and will go on tour with them as his main gigging snare for the foreseeable future. Not trying to beat my own drum, but for someone that can't play, I do some pretty cool things with these old, worn out drums.

Look at the thread, "Mr. Tyler Brewington"

I guess it would boil down to this:

It sounds like $35 plus shipping for the drum is not a particularly fabulous deal.

But in case I've misunderstood, I'd be delighted to arrange for it to be shipped your way "on account".

Seems to me that the drum has way more potential in your hands than elsewhere.... (and that, my friend. is worth LOT's of Good Karma).

Please advise.

Jeff
