Taken off the market.
I may post it again sometime. No definite offers to-date.
Thank you for looking.
Very neat!
Mike
Agreed!! A piece of drumming history there!!
Cheers
Do you suppose that was a spare floor tom he had picked up along the way? Every noew and then you see him with a multi-color setup (as if one got lost) Would be a shame to think that piece got separated from a matching bass and tom. Cool thing to have if you also have a spare $5500.
Mojo unlimited!!! That Swissair tag gives an extra-cuote of history!
GLWS!!
Thank you for the comments. It's a big step for me to even think about selling this let alone posting it for sale. I clearly remember bidding on eBay and setting my max bid so high that if I lost I knew I put everything I had into it. I thought at the time.... and still do... that this drum is special. Special not only because of the drum and finish but because it's amazing to imagine where it's been.
I've taken very good care of it and not taken it out of my drum room other than when I moved 7 years ago. I do use it sometimes with my 59 GS Progressive Jazz set.... as I am right now. I switched out the batter head though... don't want to play on the one that came with the drum.
I'll take a photo of the drum with my GS Gretsch setup later today if anyone's interested.
Unfortunately for some reason I'm not able to load the photo at even 200 or 300kb size here. So this is a very small filesize photo.
GS PJ Gretsch set with the tom and and I have my nos sq badged 6inch tom in the mix as well. It's between 1984 and 98 as far as I can find.
Posting pics from the Craigslist listing for future reference...
Cheers
I was fortunate enough to see him play live on two occasions. Once in the 60's at Lenny's on the Pike (old building before it burned). Later in the 80's outdoors at the DeCordova Museum in Lincoln, MA. For sure he did not have that tom at DeCordova because he was using a newer era set in one color and it was not a pearl; maybe yellow paint something like Tony Williams used.
But maybe, just maybe, he was using that starlight sparkle one at Lenny's and I saw it. :)
Thanks Dan
My drum here is an Anniversary Sparkle. It was one of only two Round Badged drums that Keiko Jones sold to Donn Bennett after Elvin died. The other was a bass drum in a Satin Flame wrap and I believe Charlie Watts bought that one.
