I dont know whether this has come up before. But I found this little tip I've just read in the Ludwig Drummer Magazine Spring 1930.[page 192 in the centerbrook book,]

In special piano choruses use a silk rag over the bottom cymbal of a foot sock pedal cymbal.Try a sizzle stick on a horse imitation cup rim.

FOR LIGHTNING EFFECT USE A SYNCO JAZZ STICK[a brass handled wire brush. Dion..]IN STEAD OF A SCREW DRIVER. iT WORKS WELL. CONNECT AN ELECTRIC WIRE TO THE CYMBAL, AND ANOTHER WRE TO THE JAZZ STICK. THIS COMPLEATS THE ELECTRIC CIRCUIT AND CREATS SPARKS AT CONTACT.

PREPARE BEFORHAND WITH EXTRA-STONG FUSES TO PREVENT BLOWOUTS.

ASK YOUR LOCAL ELECTRICIAN TO HELP YOU DESIGN THIS.

I cant help wonder if ever Ludwig were sued by an irrate wife whos husband came back from a gig in a box looking like he had just been in the the big chair at SingSing. DionHmmmm
