Well, here comes the reaction from people who like old, smelly drums and old, dirty cymbals... heh.

John Densmore said that he liked old heads and would often hate a sound of a new head until it became... eh, old. Look at photos of vintage drummers, they often used incredibly dirty and beaten-up heads in those days... so... yeah.

But 39 dollars... I think I'll pass, too!

Didn't John Bonham like old heads as well? I seem to remember hearing something about how he would get upset with his drum tech if he put a new head on.

I like the sound of a nicely broken in head myself. Not beaten to death, but well seated by playing and time so it really meshes with the shell. It's kind of like that sweet spot for guitar strings - not too bright, like they are right out of the pack, and not too dead like they are after not having been changed for months or years. (If anyone knows what I mean.)
