Ed Thigpens old sabian mini-bell ride

Hi everyone.

I'm looking for experts to give qualified answers or guess on the authencity of the following cymbal:

I've recently bought/I'm in the process of buying a ride-cymbal whick the seller claims to be a Sabian mini-bell ride designed and made only to Ed Thigpen. About five copies made. Seller says that he was Ed's student in the late 80's/early 90's, fell in love with the cymbal, and got to buy it from Ed - since Ed had four others.

Ed's profile page on sabian.com tells he used a "prototype 20" mini-bell ride". sabian consumer service says that it could be one of those - protypes send to him in the development of his signature(massproduced)-cymbals. They've confirmed that the cymbal IS from the early 80's, as seller guessed.

What do you guys think? Is it reliable that it has in fact belonged to Ed?

Dunno. I can say that the cymbal hammering and stamp appear to be from that time frame. Without any docs, it would just be a cool story. These mini bells have been around longer than this particular cymbal. Sabian is a MadeToOrder company that will make you most anything you want. So, it would be tough to narrow this down 100% to Ed's ride without said docs. Cool ride, irregardless why it was made.

It could be nice with some sort of doc, yes. I would propably say that the authencity is actually reliable. First of all both seller and me live in Copenhagen. The same did Ed. So, it's not impossible I would say, it could just be nice if some expert had a method or knowledge that would lead to some sort of clarification:)

Others who might have an opinion are very welcome to write! Trying to figure out whether to buy or not.

What would you by the way think that a cymbal like this is worth (USd)? if it wasn't or if it was Ed's... curious:)
