Ebay response to question, am I an a**?

Loading...

So I asked two questions about shipping for a drum on ebay, one if that was his actual quote ($60 to ship a floor tom UPS) and another to ask if he had considered FedEx as I was quoted around $30 to ship it by them. This is the response I received:

"I stand by my previous answer. "In the event the actual shipping cost is less, you will receive a refund". I reserve the right to select UPS or FedEX ground service. You will be billed the ebay estimated cost as shown in the listing. After it ships if the actual cost is less I will refund the difference. Honestly 90 percent of bidders asking questions never end up bidding, hopefully you are in the other 10 percent. "

I was offended and let the person know that my maximum bid is dependent on an accurate estimate of shipping cost and the lower their shipping price the higher my bid. Am I out of line and is shipping something I should just accept and not hassle people about?

I absolutely agree with you. Shipping cost is part of the total cost to me and therefore must be considered when bidding on an item. I will not usually bid on these "open-ended" shipping cost items. When I have sold items on ebay I do a "test" packaging, weighing, etc. before listing so I can post the actual shipping cost.

I think some of the eBay people are so sick of flakes they are overprotective. I would be selective. If you think, "Maybe I should pass on this." then you probably should. I would send a response back explaining your concerns and he will probably apologize. Most people are cool but this economy has everone ready to fight.

ABSOLUTELY NOT!!!!! Ask as many questions as possible. As a consumer you have the right to know what you are buying, especially when you cannot physically see it. Honest, upstanding Ebay seller's never have a problem with many questions. If they do walk away. Remember no item is worth being unsure of purchase.....it will return again. Check out Kingsmusic on Ebay and you will mark him as a favorite seller. He always has vintage drums, parts and hardware for all kinds of makes and models. The best part is that they are always in MINT condition. He is a great guy to deal with.Cool1

I think most ebay sellers make alittle on shipping say a part cost 5.20-{flat rite box}- and 80 cents for tracking number total is 6.00 they may charge 8.00 for shipping to me that's not a problem..The only problem i have is when they list a snare drum for 1.00 and shipping is 75.00 ...Mikey

When I shipped a FT to Kev in NC from MI it was less than $40 with good insurance. May have even been around $35 actually. I say dont be screwed by shipping. Everything I have ever shipped I found everything except tape for free basically.
