Can somebody tell me what the big deal is about shipping to Italy. I see a lot of auctions stating no shipping to Italy.
Ebay Question
hi.
i've seen this as well a few times and became curious myself, cause i am buying a lot of stuff in the states and have it shipped here to germany...
for italy it looks like the rules for importing goods are unlike strikter than for other countrys, including musical instruments of any kind. i found this link on the usps site
looks weird, but that seems to be the reason. also, in some forums it looks like people in italy are complaining a lot about not receiving the items they got and then make a money claim on paypal. reason for not receiving could be that italian customs hold back a lot of stuff.....
i never had problems like that here in germany, i ordered stuff from the states about 15-20 times now. it always arrived save and sound....
thinking about it... isn't restoration guru adrian kirchler in italy?? wonder what happens if you send a drum to him.... would it be held back by customs? guess or hope not!

AK is up in South Tyrol, Italy (top right corner of the boot)...so far I've had no problems sending or receiving drums from Adrian.

Italy's import rules...you can find them at USPS.com..you have to dig a bit...state that you cannot ship "bells or other musical instruments" to Italy. Some USPS folks don't notice it and will take your package.
I've shipped many times there from my post office..they read the rules...so I listed an old drum as "old brass bowl." Most of the buyers there are hip to this. I've never had a problem.
I know of someone who shipped a black beauty to AK for renovation. The Italian post office wouldn't accept it.
It never got there. It was listed as lost, but mysteriously ended up back to the original sender in the states a month later...
Amazing he got it back. Lost in Poste Italia system...you will never see that mailed object again, usually.
